Ed Freedman Profiled In New ‘Inspiring Conversations’ Series

Ed Freedman, founder of Stable Road Foundation, was recently featured in Canvas Rebel’s new series “Inspiring Conversations.” The series asks successful artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs to share the experiences and inspirations that led them to thrive in their chosen field.

For this piece, Ed’s story began long before the founding of the Foundation in 2017. It begins with an anecdote from high school, when classmates voted him “Most Likely to Succeed” because of the boat cleaning business Ed had founded while still a student.

Some aspects of the interview will be familiar to those who’ve read Ed’s previous profiles—such as the role of his grandfather, Morris, in shaping his approach to business (and life in general). The anecdote about Morris’ “Four Leaf Clover of Success,” in particular, bolsters the stories Ed has shared about the gratitude and respect that defined the life of his “Pop-Pop.”

The interview covers new ground, as well—particularly in regards to Ed’s career as an entrepreneur, which Ed compares to “a game of Chutes & Ladders.”

From the founding of his company to the challenges of the 2007 financial crisis, Ed paints a vivid picture of his early years as a leader. At one point, he reveals that his brother nicknamed him “Tommy Boy” after Ed embarked on a cross-country road trip to win back skittish clients in the midst of an economic downturn.

The culmination of the story, however, comes after Ed moved to Maui and founded Stable Road Foundation. This is where he and the Foundation team “accidentally [became] disaster relief experts,” after helping to lead relief efforts following deadly wildfires in Los Angeles and on Maui itself.

Overall, the interview shows a deeply personal side of Ed and the Foundation that has never appeared in print before. You can read the full piece here.
